Crystals are more popular than ever, and interest in their properties just seems to continue growing. The latest generation of crystal fans share their information on social media, blog posts, and quck infogrpahic style posts, and that’s great! But sometimes this can mean the more unique or uncommon properties of crystals get forgotten. I have some old-school tips I would like to add to the discussion, having been both a deep lover of crystals and gems, and soemone whos tried and tested many of them myself. Here are some tried and true crystal tips you may have never heard before.

1) Obsidian: Stone of truth

Any type of obsidian can be used to reveal the truth of a situation. Carry a snowflake obsidian in your purse or pocket to prevent people from lying. Write out the situation or person that you are questioning on paper. Be clear about what your fears and concerns are. Wrap this paper around a piece of obsidian and tuck it away for 24 hours. The truth will usually come to you. Be ready for it, though, when we ask for the truth we generally get it. Obsidian has been used for centuries for meditators and scrying in black mirrors as well, so it’s not hard to imagine the leap to helping with truth coming to the surface.

2) Selenite for Solutions

Selenite is a beautiful, luminous crystal, named for the ancient goddess of the Moon. Selene was an Etruscan Goddess loved in ancient times and prayed to each night for blessings and solutions. In ancient times one of her many titles was Selene, the Infinity of Solutions.

This magical rite is best performed on the full moon. Go outdoors on the night of the full moon with your selenite crystal, any size will do. A wonderful way to do this spell is near a beach, lake or steam. Water helps us to move into an altered and magical state. While holding selenite in your left hand, think of any part of your life that seems stuck or not progressing. Ask the universe to show you how to resolve your situation. Selenite, just like her goddess namesake, can help you resolve your stuck place. You mind will be permeated with creative thoughts and ideas. A new perspective or a new solution will certainly appear.

Rose Quartz: Self-esteem

Rose quartz is often thought of as a romance stone or bringing in new love, but what better love is there than love of oneself. Bathing with rose quartz in your bath is said to increase your self love and self esteem, and influeneyour own thoughts and self talk. Just drop a rose quartz into the tub and relax and soak. This works equally well with a rough or tumbled stone.

Amethyst: Psychic Dreams

Amethyst is a crystal most often associated with psychci ability in the sense of heightened intuition during the day, but it is equally helpful to us in our sleeping hours. Placing an amethyst stone under your pillow at night can inspire psychic or lucid dreams. It’s also a good idea to have a notebook or journal ready to record your dreams, as you will most likely wake up with a load of information.

Lapis lazuli: Astral Projection

If you want to master the art of astral projection, the best crystal ally is lapis. Place a lapis lazuli in your meditation space as you learn to alter your consciousness and project your spirit body. Lapis is a beautiful stone that can both protect your spirit body and heighten your physical awareness to make it easier to leave your grounded body.

Hematite: Chronic Pain and Anxiety

Today’s scientists are discovering the healing power of grounding or ‘earthing.’ Connecting to the earth beneath our feet is a wonderful way to relieve pain and feel better, and although witches and spiritualists have been aware of this idea for generations, it seems modern science has caught on to the power of touching some grass! Mystics have known for a lifetime that hematite, an iron-heavy stone can for sure help you become more grounded. A grounded state can help you be more calm, make better decisions and even ease inflammation in your body that is causing pain. Research ‘earthing’ for more information on this practice.

Petrified Wood: Past Life Memories

At times, we all wonder who we may have been before this current incarnation. To learn about your important past lives, work with a piece of petrified wood. Petrified wood is an aid to accessing your soul’s knowledge about previous lifetimes, as it has been forming for generations. Just place the stone on your third eye while in a deep meditative state. Ask for the most significant lifetime or moments to be shown and revealed to you. Sometimes the result of this exercise will be shicking.
